20,000 Leagues Pendant by magpie-poet 20,000 Leagues Pendant by magpie-poet
A variation on my Nemo Pendant. This ammonite had some still open chambers, so I was able to add gears in them, and a teeny tiny screw. I picked up some old watch hands at an antique show this summer and decided to play with them as well.

I've been looking over your wrapped ammonites again. I think you really have a good thing here, you don't over-embellish and overpower the fossils.

Thanks. I did one of these before which pretty much slipped under the radar till two friends kind of fought over it. The biggest problem is getting afforable parts. And finding the right marke for selling the steampunky stuff!

I want to make one so badly! Biggest part of the problem is that the ammonites big enough for a wall clock, or ever a desk one are too pricy for me. But I figure maybe someday I'll find one a bit damaged that the seller will give me a good deal on. In theory you could just get a cheap craft store clock kit, drill a hole in a large fossil and put the thing together and look for vintage additions at leisure.

 I absolutely adore this. Ammonites in general are wonderful, but I love the personality you've put into this with the mechanical bits.

Thank you. And they are wonderful. And oddly addictive. Besides making jewelry with them, I've a few for display!
